Life takes you unexpected places

Updated: Oct 9

open road

I love how life takes you unexpected places when you’re open to adventure.

I had planned a month to get away beginning late August to late September. I was thinking I would go to Santa Fe for a month to do some writing and clear my head but every time I try to rent a place for the month, it fell through.

I began my trip in Cincinnati and a doctor’s visit to Alliance  Integrated Medicine just to get some things checked and some bloodwork.

I visited with family and friends and had a great stay, but Santa Fe still kept closing and so when my doctor the amazing Val suggested I drive route 66 and then go to Humboldt County California to see the redwoods it didn’t take me long to think it through and get very excited.

I started last week at the beginning of route 66 in Chicago driving into downtown all the way to Michigan and Adams. It will probably be the scariest thing on my trip ha ha, but eventually, I found my way out and on the road. Route 66 is now broken up doesn’t continually go through but I find that more exciting anyway when I spot a sign I get very excited. When I’m on a different road and I see something fun I get very excited as well.

I started my trip on Friday not even thinking about the holiday weekend and the fact that I had no hotel booked and I have the puppy with me so I need puppy friendly hotels. I went from Chicago to St. Louis and visited my friends Aaron and Susan. It was great. I had not seen Aaron since I worked with him 22 years ago in Florida. When I mentioned my trip, they immediately suggested I go to their lake house in the Ozarks and spend as much time as I wanted! What an amazing gift.

I drove there on Saturday and stayed until Wednesday when I got back on the road and I’m now in Tulsa!

I’m loving Tulsa what a beautiful spot. I’m right downtown and staying in a very cool hotel watching Expedition X on discovery. My room actually has a beautiful bathtub and I plan on using it.

Tomorrow, I’m headed to Irving Texas near Dallas and we will spend an extra day with my friend Lauren! then on to the next leg of my trip!

There’s so much beauty and so much goodness in this country and in this world. I’m laying here in this brutalist style hotel room with Lexi and her foxy sleeping beside me surrounded by plants and the best Keylime pie I’ve ever had.

For today, there is no worry. For today, I am OK. For today, I am full to the top with beauty and delight. For today, I’m living on Tulsa time. For today, in this moment, I need nothing more than this moment.
